Government Of Assam Implementation of Assam Accord

Achievements

  • As a token of acknowledgement of the sacrifices of the martyrs, on 10th December, 2016, the Government of Assam in a grand ceremony at Veterinary College Play Ground Khanapara Guwahati attended by the kith and kin of the martyrs and victims of the Assam Movement and people of Assam, paid tribute to the 855 martyrs in a “Shraddhanjali Anusthan” and honored the families with a memento and financial token of Rs. 5.00 (five) Lakhs each.
  • As part of the Government’s decision to build a monument and Park in memory of the Martyrs, a plot of land is being identified. The allotment of land is in process. The Park will be called “Swahid Smarak Khetra”. Government has also decided to take up measures for the preservation of Swahid Bedis and memorial parks created in the names of Martyrs of Assam Agitation in different parts of the State.
  • An approach paper for strengthening of the department and implementation of Assam Accord in letter and spirit have been prepared and approved by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam. Beside this, an exclusive office for department of Implementation of Assam Accord is being established near Dispur, replete with an Information Centre, an Archive cum photo Gallery of Martyrs, and a Conference Centre.
  • A Cabinet Sub-Committee has been reconstituted to deal with the matter of updation of NRC and Implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord on 11th July, 2016 under the Chairmanship of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Minister Health & FW, Finance etc. and 3 (Three) Nos. of Minister. The newly constituted Cabinet Sub Committee hold two rounds of meeting reviewed the progress of NRC updation work.
  • A Round Table Conference / Dialogue on “Constitutional Safeguards for Assam” was organized by this department in cooperation with the North East Political Science Association and North-East Policy Alternative. The meeting discussed among others how constitutional protection can be ensured for the indigenous people of Assam.
